Occupational Therapy
What is occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy (OT) helps individuals of all ages achieve and maintain a high level of independence and satisfaction in their daily activities, or “occupations, from whatever that ails them. Occupational therapists work with people who have physical, cognitive, or emotional disabilities, injuries, or illnesses, as well as those who are experiencing developmental delays or other challenges.
The goal of occupational therapy is to help individuals participate in the activities that are meaningful to them, such as self-care, work, school, leisure, and social activities. Occupational therapists use a variety of interventions, such as exercises, adaptive equipment, environmental modifications, and cognitive-behavioral strategies, to help individuals develop or restore their skills, improve their function, and adapt to their environments.
Occupational therapy is a client-centered and evidence-based practice that is grounded in the principles of occupational science, anatomy and physiology, psychology, and other related disciplines.
Helping people do what they love best can only improve their recovery from whatever ails them, and it helps our patients maintain a positive self-image even as they undergo difficulties.
